How much does an independent business valuation cost?
We quote individually. A straightforward owner planning discussion may require a different level of work from a valuation of several share classes or a report intended for a specified third party.
The quote should make clear what will be assessed, what output you will receive and how the analysis may be used. There is no published fixed price on this site.
What to compare in a valuation proposal
What decision is the valuation supporting, and at what date?
Does the scope cover the whole company or particular shares?
What information, methods and assumptions will be considered?
What is the reporting format, who receives it and who may rely on it?
What depends on receiving information, and what questions are included?
From an initial question to an agreed engagement
- Tell us the purpose. Start with your name, email and why a valuation is needed.
- Discuss the context. We consider the business, intended use and information available.
- Agree the scope and fee. Responsibilities, reporting and timetable are set out before work begins.
- Provide the information. Documents are requested through an agreed process.
- Review the analysis. The output explains the conclusion, assumptions and limitations within the agreed scope.
You do not need perfect records to enquire
If information is incomplete, say so. We can discuss what is available and whether additional preparation is needed before a useful valuation can be completed. Information gaps can affect scope, timing and the conclusions that can be supported.
Do not upload confidential accounts or tax information through the initial form. Begin with the decision you face. Explore sale and exit valuations or private company share valuations.
Affordable business valuations: keep the scope useful
Affordable means matching the work to the decision and your budget, not promising the lowest price. An early planning discussion may need a different output from a detailed shareholder report. We identify what is necessary before agreeing the fee; essential evidence should not be omitted simply to reduce cost.
Three ways to reduce avoidable work
- Reconcile annual accounts to current management figures and explain differences.
- Provide one current ownership schedule and identify relevant share rights.
- Agree the purpose, date and recipients before the analysis starts.
For example, changing from a whole-business sale assessment to a disputed minority shareholding can require a revised brief. Identifying that requirement early avoids commissioning the wrong deliverable. Ask what follow-up, VAT and additional work are included in your quote.
Valuations are prepared by an ICAEW Chartered Accountant. If you need a signed or specified report, explain the recipient’s requirements first.
